Synsam

Client work · 2016 · UI design · Interaction design

An internal order-entry portal for Synsam’s eyewear-subscription product — designed for optometrists and shop staff, not end customers.

Synsam is the largest optician chain in the Nordics. In 2016 they launched an eyewear-subscription product — pay monthly, swap your frames, upgrade whenever — and needed an internal portal for shop staff to set up new subscriptions in-store. I did the UI and interaction design for the whole flow: creating customers, picking base and add-on products, handling guardians for under-18s, payment, and the final signed contract.

The flow

Lägg till nytt abonnemang

The core flow is a five-step wizard — customer details, base products, add-ons, payment, article numbers — with a live summary card on the right that builds up as the staff member works through it. Opinionated density: shop staff want to see the whole subscription on one screen, not paginate.

Step 5 — Artikelnummer. Staff scan or type frame SKUs; matched products appear in the summary card to the right.
Customer details

Handling the fiddly cases

Subscriptions for minors need a guardian; guardians need terms-approval and a credit check. The customer-details step quietly adds and collapses these sub-flows depending on the customer’s age, so a straightforward adult subscription stays a single short form, and a minor’s subscription opens up into the full multi-step sequence.

All prerequisites cleared — now choosing subscription type.
Base products

Price bubbles, by frame category

Base products — single-vision, progressive, sport, sunglasses with or without prescription — each have price bubbles by quality tier. Picking one updates the monthly cost and total commitment in the summary card. The weird little design challenge: compressing a very wide product matrix (category × quality × frame count) into something a shop assistant can scan in a few seconds.

Basprodukter — price bubbles per tier, per product category.
Contract

The final paper artefact

At the end of the flow, a one-page contract gets printed and signed. I designed the document as carefully as the screens — same typography, same orange, same calm density — because it’s the thing the customer actually takes home.
